Satan, from Paradise Lost by Erin Shields

“Paradise Lost” is a feminist retelling of John Milton’s epic poem about the first sins and power struggles between good and evil in the Christian Bible. This monologue is from the character of Satan, who is a woman in this telling of events, to God, her father, as they remain at odds over God’s favour for humans. I previously worked on this text in an acting course, using the Stanislavski method to explore and honour Satan’s character.
